growing practices
We use simple, high-quality soil amendments and careful labor to grow our vegetables. Throughout the season we amend our beds with compost, manure, and organic fertilizer. We cover our beds in the fall to hold our soil in place and maintain nutrients used in the growing season. Each season, we add to the soil a thin layer of compost and an organic, natural fertilizer. We use organic seeds when available and only use non-GMO seeds. We grow — and sell — our own seedlings, planted in soil blocks made of organic potting soil. We seed, plant, prune, thin, and cultivate by hand. We use our two-wheeled tractor only for the initial bed preparation. We do not use any harmful pesticides or herbicides. Finally, we use unheated plastic tunnels, row covers, plastic mulch, and tarps to extend the growing season and help eliminate weeds.

our history
Established in 2018, Leigh Farm is a 4-acre farm in Aurora, Ohio, producing seasonal vegetables, eggs, flowers, and honey, using responsible growing practices.
Looking for land in Northeast Ohio to start a thriving vegetable farm, my family and I settled in Aurora in the spring of 2016. We met a welcoming community, a well maintained 200-year-old home, and a half acre overgrown, muddy, and rock-filled meadow. Over the next two years, we reclaimed the meadow and established gardens, a flock of hens, and bee hives. We provide high quality spring vegetable and herb plants to our neighbors in northeast Ohio.
